About Me...

LaTanya Tolan Logo

I received my Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) and Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance from California State University Long Beach.  I became licensed by the State of California as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  I also earned a second Masters in Educational Leadership from California State University Dominguez Hills.  I am also a Certified Christian Life Coach from the Professional Christian Coaching & Counseling Academy (PCCCA).

I have worked for almost two decades providing social services in various settings, including Foster Care, Mental Health clinics as well as providing School Social Work.  For fourteen years, I worked at the second largest school district in the nation. For eleven of those years, I was honored to provide mental health services to children, adolescents and their families as a Psychiatric Social Worker.  For three years, I was in an Administrator, focused on supporting parents, as well as increasing the engagement and involvement of Black parents.

For six years, I was an Adjunct Faculty and Field Liaison in the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Since 2011, I have maintained my private practice, which is devoted to healing black people with various challenges.  I provide mental health therapy, clinical supervision and consultations to other mental health professionals, as well as life coaching.  My concentrated population is adults, families and couples, and I have walked with them after their experiences with trauma, grief and loss, professional issues and other problems causing life impairments.

I also enjoy public speaking to various populations, delivering Professional Development trainings and mentoring other clinicians.

I have been and will always be committed to inspiring and empowering black people towards healing, growth, change and goal attainment–so that they can attract and ultimately reach their optimum potential.

My Theoretical Orientation...

As a clinician, I provide culturally relevant, strength-based interventions while utilizing an eclectic approach.  The clinical interventions that I provide are primarily by incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy, through a trauma-informed lens.

As a life coach, I continue to provide culturally relevant coaching interventions, also from a strength-based perspective.  I will help you identify goals, find solutions to issues impeding your personal or professional progress.  For mental health clinicians, I can also help you identify your niche.

I support all of my clients with individualized approaches while providing accountability, caring, honesty, and realness.  Something that I view as an invaluable necessity, no matter what population I am serving, is self-care.  A foundational belief that I hold is that self-care is an ethical mandate for anyone in the helping professions.  I also believe that black healing professionals require a more extensive level of support beyond self-care.  For black clincians, Soul Care is far beyond ethics, it is necessary for surviving... This is exactly why I created Soul Care for Black Clinicians™.

Why Should You Work With Me...

It is my personal mission to empower, support, teach, care for, love on and heal the souls of black people; and therefore ultimately improve the trajectories of the black family and the black community. My specific dedication to working with black clinicians and black healing professionals supports my calling to heal, support, educate and help create more black entrepreneurs, who will adopt my mission as their own.
